Profile Update — 04-14-11

We interrupt this regularly-scheduled profile with this urgent message from the Bitch Storm Warning Center:

Do not PM or request Friends, Dancing, Hand-holding, etc. until we’ve had Local dialog and you’ve been invited — failure to comply will result in being ignored or even publicly ridiculed. Probably the later.

Much has happened since I first came here in January 2010. I’ve met great folks here in RLC, a few who are truly special people and who have helped me immeasurably in life. My heartfelt thanks to SifuPeter, Holden_Ahn and Craig_PS, my Three RLC Musketeers, whose friendship and unwavering support transcended the virtual and helped change my life forever: I owe them a debt I’ll never be able to fully repay.

I suppose I should state up front that I’m here mostly to meet people. I’m not looking for cyber sex, sordid affairs, a long-term relationship or anything construed as sexual. I come to RLC to meet people; to have a few laughs, share experiences and generally do what people do when they gather socially. As I said, sometimes that leads to some deep and close friendships, but for the most part, it’s about sharing comraderie. So I cannot emphasize enough: If you are looking for some sort of online sexual relationship, you’'ll not find that with me. Not that that sort of motivation is necessarily bad, it’s just not my reason to be here. Other than passing time socializing individually or collectively, I enjoy RLC for its opportunity to design and build individual or commercial property (see below).

The things I’ve learned about RLC so far:

• Everyone has their reason to be here, but at a fundamental root level, it’s about the human need for companionship.
• Good people abound, and RLC is an invaluable means to meet others that otherwise you never would have.
• Your life can truly be enriched by even virtual friendship. Quite possibily, this is the most sublime and wonderful aspect of RLC.
• Not everyone is destined to be friends with everyone else; but it’s nice to have a circle of acquaintances you relate to. It’s a quality thing, not a quantity thing.

So you want to know more about me, right? — I suspected as much :-)

Words don’t adequately convey what or who I am, or what or who anyone is. Actions do. So you shall see and I shall see. Be yourself, I’ll be myself — ultimately we’ll both be happier that way.

Like most people, I treat others the way I am treated. It’s much more pleasant to be nice, so let’s keep it at that level. Trust me, you won’t like my bitchy side.

Like I said above, please don't PM me unless you’re on my Friends list ... it’s not that I don’t want to meet you, but I find it intrusive and presumptuously rude. Chat with me in Local. If we’re hitting it off, we’ll probably be talking in PM in no time! Be warned though, I like to talk ... probably too much.

I’m not impressed by unwanted advances. You want to dance? To invite me to be Friends? Ask me first in Local chat, you’ll get a receptive response if: (a) you've talked to me in Local chat; (b) you’ve been polite in public and about asking me; and (c) I feel more than a cursory level of interest in your company. Keep it mutual and consensual — meaning that you’ve left me a choice. Deprive me of my choice and you will piss me off. Oh, I have a wicked temper and scathing wit ... be forewarned.

I have my real-life “Mr. Right.” And, to me at least, he is perfect – even with his flaws, he is the soul-mate I wished for all my adult life. So I’m not here seeking to replace or augment what I have already been blessed with. I am here to meet people, have fun, and do some virtual architecture. Period.

As far meeting goes, be real, express yourself honestly, and chat with me in Local. As I said before, I’ve made many good friends here in RLC and I think there are many more out there waiting to be found – perhaps you are one of them.

Short version: It depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s fun to go out and be active and doing things, other times it’s fun to just unwind and relax.

What things, you ask? That's what getting to know someone is all about. So chat away in Local and explore, just as I will do with you.

Here again, my interests are varied and again, it’s a mood thing. Good music transcends genres. There’s music for dancing, for relaxation and contemplation, or just to enjoy the lyrics. My musical preference depends on what I want at a given moment.

If there’s one genre I love beyond others, it’s probably old-school blues ... but that's “me” music, something for my soul when I’m feeling reflective. If there are genres I care little for, it’s rap and hip-hop. While others might enjoy it, I find it mostly irritating.

I like any movie with compelling characters, an in-depth plot and good directing and acting. Don’t worry — it’s not just a “chick-flick” thing! lol

I like to read. Science fiction and fantasy mostly, everything from old school like Heinlein and Asimov and JRR Tolkien to the latest releases ... though I haven’t read much recently. I also read lots of technical stuff, but that’s not by choice usually.

I also read books about something that’s captured my interest; whether it is a book on religion or philosophy, or how to cook up a gourmet meal on a budget. I enjoy poetry, mostly classical poets like Tennyson, Frost, Dickinson, Longfellow and Wadsworth, to mention just a few.

I also like to write: poetry, technical articles, and some not-yet-published fiction. Who knows ... maybe some day I’ll be the next Rawlings? I can dream, right? :-D
